Warning lights
The light tells you something is wrong, not what. Codes are read, the fault is tested until it is confirmed, and you hear what it means in plain English.
Explain my warning light — (303) 997-2698Something is out of range. Book a visit soon.
An active misfire. Drive gently and call.
Ignition, fuel or air leak faults often show up this way.
A sensor may be reading wrong.
Check the fuel cap first and give it a few drives.
Codes narrow the problem to a system. Testing narrows it to a part. Only once the cause is confirmed do we recommend a repair, which is what stops the cycle of replacing parts until the light goes out.
The testing time is quoted before it starts. The repair is priced separately once the cause is known, so you can decide with all the facts in front of you.
If a fault only appears in certain conditions, like a cold morning, a hot idle or a long climb, the testing is planned around recreating it, because an intermittent fault that cannot be reproduced cannot be confirmed.
Faults with a clear code and an obvious failed part take little testing. Intermittent problems, wiring faults and anything that involves more than one system take longer. The testing time is quoted up front, and if it needs to grow, you are asked before it does.
Say whether the light is steady or flashing, how the engine is behaving and what happened just before it came on. If a parts store already read the code, pass it along.
Mention any recent work on the vehicle as well. A light that appears soon after another repair often points somewhere specific and saves testing time.
Usually for a short while if it is steady and the engine feels normal. Not if it is flashing or the engine is overheating.
No. The light will return when the fault is detected again.
Because codes describe symptoms, and the cause is often wiring, a leak or a different part.
Note when it happens, such as cold starts, long drives or wet weather. Patterns like that cut the testing time considerably and lower the cost.
Call and describe the symptom. We will explain how we would test it and what that costs.
